Hi hunnies,
Last week was a busy one for me. I’m taking on a new position at work, a more full-time role, so I’ve been a little distracted, but I wanted to pop into your inbox to share some bits and bobs I’ve been enjoying lately. As heavy as this summer has been with what seems to be a constant stream of “unprecedented” events, I’m reminding myself that it’s important to enjoy the little things.
Drink — Homemade iced coffee with almond milk, a splash of TJ’s coconut almond vanilla creamer and a sprinkle of cinnamon. I also got a matcha lemonade with coconut foam at Highly Likely in Highland Park this week. Something about an iced sweet treat hits different in this sweltering heat, I must say.
Eat — Watermelon salad with cucumber, feta, and mint drizzled with olive oil, honey, lime juice and a little Maldon salt. Perfect summer salad! Could eat it every day.
I also recreated the Kismet chicken schnitzel and giardiniera a couple weeks ago and it was bomb dot com. Pretty easy too. I winged it using their instagram video, the NYT chicken Milanese recipe and a quick pickle as reference but I’m dying to get their new cookbook!
Watch — We rewatched The Craft (1996) this week. It was the first time I’d seen it since my sister showed it to me when I was ten years old. At the time, I was totally freaked out by that scene where the mean girl’s hair falls out in the shower and all the creepy crawly’s at the end. I forgot about all the cool 90s fashion and satanic rituals. Max says it’s like Mean Girls for witches or Lost Boys for girls. 10/10 recommend. It’s streaming on Netflix.
Read — I can’t for the life of me pick up a book lately. I’ve been so preoccupied by current events and honestly don’t have the attention span for anything long form. Granted I do a lot of reading on the Substack app, but the books on my bedside table have been collecting dust. I did download White Fragility on Spotify last week and have been listening to the audiobook on my way to work and whilst running errands. A long overdo read that should be required for all white people.
If I believe that only bad people are racist, I will feel hurt, offended, and shamed when an unaware racist assumption of mine is pointed out. If I instead believe that having racist assumptions is inevitable (but possible to change), I will feel gratitude when an unaware racist assumption is pointed out; now I am aware of and can change that assumption.

Listen — New Leon bridges! The man knows how to make a girl swoon. His song Chrome Cowgirl from the movie Twisters (haven’t seen it and probably won’t) is playing on repeat in my home.
Follow — I don’t know why it took me so long to follow Jane Fonda on instagram but she’s huge on organizing to fight climate change and generally fabulous.
I also just subscribed to Toi Smith’s newsletter called The Deepening, where she sends out “a decolonial reading carefully chosen to deepen your political insight, cultivate your historical awareness, and inspire a commitment to embodied, material, social change for you, your beloveds, and the whole collective body.” It’s linked on her instagram and the first edition has already opened my eyes to the history of genocide in the US.
That’s it for now. I haven’t been super active on instagram lately but you’re always welcome to slide into my DMs (platonically). I’m @extrahoneyy <3
I never saw the Craft but “Mean Girls for witches” is real tempting
why won't you be watching the new Twisters movie? (be honest)
