I won the lottery

sure i drive the same damn car
and drink at the same dive
but god, i won the jackpot
you can see it in my eyes

i have everything i ever wanted
and maybe even more
despite the numbers in the books
that would have you guess i’m poor

i have a heart that beats red hot blood
i've got my old man by my side
i have twelve hours till my next shift
and a slice of pumpkin pie

i got the full moon staring down at me
and a glass (or two) of rye
hell yeah, i won the lottery
cuz darling, i’m alive

First poem of the year! I wrote this while I was listening to Billie Eilish’s tiny desk concert, but somehow it came out like an old country western tune?? Not my usual vibe, but I kinda dig it. Also, damn, Billie is good.
